Crops Rot in Farm Fields As Immigration Crackdown Creates Farmworker Shortage

California is being hit hard by a farmworker shortage which is in turn causing huge amounts of crops to be wasted as they rot in farm fields. This is a complete and utter waste of food. Tough on immigration? Guess what…the cost of your produce is GOING UP! I don’t care if you’re republican or democrat, conservative or liberal…the fact is Americans typically don’t want to do the jobs immigrants do. The rampant blatant xenophobia and racism in America today is destroying our own food supply. We’re shooting ourselves in the foot with this kind of idiocy. “Grow your own food!” you say? OK, sure no problem…that’s great for about 1% of the population who has land to do that on, and those who are able to do it.

“Vegetable prices may be going up soon, as a shortage of migrant workers is resulting in lost crops in California.  Farmers say they’re having trouble hiring enough people to work during harvest season, causing some crops to rot before they can be picked. Already, the situation has triggered losses of more than $13 million in two California counties alone, according to NBC News.” – FORTUNE MAGAZINE

But most folks depend on the grocery stores and food markets who depend on migrant labor. The fact remains that our food supply to 99% of the population depends on migrant workers and a solid immigration program. If you hang your MAGA hat on an anti-immigration hatrack just know that the fresh food you eat is harvested by migrant workers that are being deported and the price of that food is going to go up.

Aside from that. This is a complete and utter waste of food. Food that could be used to feed Americans and those hungry homeless folks who depend on food that is harvested by migrant labor.

You can argue against migrant labor all you want. You can say “Follow the law. The immigrants are breaking the law.” all you want but you know deep down you’re only using that as an excuse to hide racism and xenophobia behind the wall of law. You can argue “Immigrants taking our jobs.” and really they’re not because most Americans won’t work those jobs anyway. People that say these things are simply using them as excuses to get rid of immigrants who they don’t want here. It’s xenophobia and diet-racism hidden behind a lie. I don’t care if you agree. I don’t care what your opinion is. If you believe migrant workers are stealing your jobs you’re wrong because those are jobs that YOU won’t do yourself.

If you think migrant workers aren’t paying taxes. You’re wrong. They do. They’re not a burden on our society like you like to claim. That’s a lie perpetuated by the powers that be, the elites on both sides of the political aisle. In reality that’s just another excuse to hide behind the law. It’s xenophobic fear mongering used to push migrants out. That’s all it is. The price of food is going up and people have no one to blame but themselves because they believe the lies told to them by the elites who own the corporation that own the politicians.

Don’t come crying to me when the price of your groceries go up, and certainly don’t blame migrants because they were harvesting your food until they were deported. The people who can’t grow their own food while simultaneously blaming migrant workers for their own problems are responsible for the price increase that’s coming. People have been blinded by their own fear.

Xenophobia and racism are based in fear and hate and people are being manipulated into falling for the lie the immigrants are bad people. Immigrants come here BECAUSE we’re the land of opportunity. Not to steal from us. They send money home to their families and pay taxes just like us. This isn’t about “law and order”. That’s a lie told to people to manipulate them. The people in power would have you believe the lie that immigrants are responsible for all the bad things that happen in America. You’re being lied to. The powers that be are lying to you.

They’re manipulating you into voting against your own interests. The worst part is some of you are letting them manipulate them. This isn’t about upholding the law. It’s not about migrants. It’s about being good human beings. It’s about doing the right thing. It’s about helping your fellow human being.

We all need food. We all need to stop believing the bullshit that’s being fed to us by those with an agenda to lie and deceive us. Migrants are the workforce that hold our food system in place.

Migrant workers work the jobs that most Americans don’t want to work. It’s not right to blame migrants for our troubles. Especially considering we’re all related to our immigrant ancestors. We are a nation of immigrants.

This is about the whole world. Not just us. We cannot separate ourselves and segregate and expect it to work. That’s the wrong way.

We are the decedents of immigrant ancestors. We are a nation of diversity. And that gives us our power.

We are a nation of immigrants.

The original Americans here in the USA are Native Americans. Everyone else is either an immigrant, a child of an immigrant, a grand child of an immigrant, or a great grand child of an immigrant going back hundreds of years and many generations. We’re all Americans now by proxy and by birth.

Immigrants made America what it is today.

All our ancestors were immigrants. We come from all over the world, from all walks of life, from all ethnicities, all religions, all creeds, and all countries. We are the melting pot of the world.

We are all immigrants and we’ve have forgotten where we come from. We need to remember what this ALREADY GREAT NATION is about and where we ALL come from!

This poem is emblazoned on the Statue of Liberty and we should all know it by heart because the idea behind it is what made America the Greatest nation on Earth.

“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
MOTHER OF EXILES. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

– Emma Lazarus

We must embrace our differences and realize we’re all the same.

We’re all human beings and we all want the same thing. Happiness and abundance, safety and security. The best way to achieve that is cooperation not competition. Happiness and abundance is possible. We can have it. If we just stop being so damned selfish. If we just work together.

This is bigger than us as a country.

This is about humanity.
